Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions we receive. If your question is not addressed here, please contact us.

What size are your cabinets?

We build our own cabinets. Therefore we are able to build to your available sizing as well as your needs.

As a standard, our cabinets are 48″ wide and 24″deep. Why, because wood comes 48″ wide. Cutting it in half provides us 2- 24″sides. This reduces waste and delivers the full wood product to our customers.

What is the standard height of your cabinets?

Our standard height varies based on the height of your garage ceiling. If you have 8′ ceilings then its best to fill the void and extend the cabinets to the ceiling. If you have 10′ ceilings then 8′ cabinets are great. Many garages fall in the 9′ to 9′ 4″ range in which case either 90″ or 92″ cabinets are best. As an example: Installing 92″ cabinets, 4″ above the floor, with a ceiling 9′ 4″ tall you will leave you 16″ of FREE space above the cabinets. This negative space will also help your ceiling feel taller.

So can you build me a 92 1/2

You bet, We’ll build what best fits your space and your needs.

How many adjustable shelves come in each cabinet?

The number of shelves is based on the height of the cabinet. We install the shelves approximately 14″ apart for  better distribution of weight as well as improved access to your stuff.

So are the shelves adjustable?

Yes, every shelf.

What options do you have for work bench tops?

Several. If the intended use is heavy and constant usage, then we recommend RAW MDF. It is extremely durable. We recommend a coat of Thompson’s water seal, however you can paint, stain or varnish it as you please. If the bench is near a doorway and will serve more as a staging area, then a melamine top to match your cabinets may be best. We can also install Formica, butcher block counter tops and we’ve even installed granite.

What are your cabinets made out of?

Garage cabinets can be made of many forms of wood. While many of our competitors build their cabinets from particle board, we build our cabinets out of MDF which stands for Medium Density Fiber Board. While particle board is derived from saw dust,  MDF is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure. MDF is denser and stronger then plywood. You can even get exterior and Green rated MDF.

So why not particle board?

Most people associate particle board with the shelf under the sink that, once the sink drain starts leaking, the particle board swells up and your forced to remodel the entire kitchen. When you pull that wet car into the garage in December, your cabinets may absorb some of that moisture and thus not last as long.

Will you accept a credit card payment?

We accept VISA, Master Card and American Express. We will waive any fees for usage of a card for a deposit, however there is a  fee for usage of a card on the balance. This is the fee that the credit card companies charge us and based on our already low pricing it’s simply not a fee we can further incur.

Does ALLSTAR sell and install overhead racks?

YES. We are the ONLY garage cabinet company in the Sacramento region that installs cabinets AND racks. While our competitors utilize outside companies to install their racks, we like to provide our clients with a balance between cabinets and racks, which often results in significant savings.

How much weight can I put on an overhead storage rack?

What size racks do you offer?
