Garage Cabinets

Our garage cabinets are built with the aesthetics to please the most discerning eye yet the durability to hold up to the most challenging usage.

The two most common wood products utilized for garage cabinets are particle board and MDF.

Particle board is generally encapsulated within melamine to protect the saw dust that it’s made from against moisture damage. Most people associate particle board with kitchen cabinets. The drawback to using Particle board in a garage, is once particle board absorbs moisture, it expands then breaks apart and there is no way to repair it.

MDF stands for Medium Density Fiberboard. MDF is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure. MDF is denser and stronger than plywood. Unlike particle board, MDF can be installed without melamine to protect it. We install melamine to the exteriors of our cabinets to improve the aesthetics.

The most common failures within garage cabinets are shelves that sag and drawers that don’t work properly.

Shelves sag due to inferior quality or over loading of the shelves. Our shelves are made from solid 3/4″ thick MDF. Every shelf features an integrated rear 2″ MDF stiffener. For additional capacity, aluminum trim stiffeners can be added to the front of the shelves. The number of shelves installed within a cabinet varies based upon the height of the cabinet. We determine the number of shelves based on a spacing of 14″ – 16″ separation. We’ve found that this separation allows for easier access to most standard boxes and tubs, and reduces the weight held by each shelf, thus extending is lifetime. Our cabinets are perfect for putting your over sized cooking vessels, your large package of paper towels or other bulk items that won’t fit in the house.

Our drawers are built to withstand the rigors of garage usage. They’re built to hold tools, not silverware. All components within the drawers are 3/4″ MDF with the drawer bottoms featuring white melamine to better resist staining and to make it easier to identify your tools. All drawer slides are 100 pound rated ball bearing slides with full extensions. No cheesy slides or extras for upgrades here. This means both the small hammer AND the large hammer will fit within the drawers. Our standard drawer units feature three 6″ drawers and one 2″ pencil drawer. This drawer offers the perfect location for a couple of pencils, a couple of screwdrivers and perhaps even a few wrenches, all the tools that are difficult to locate within a deep drawer and yet are the most utilized of all our tools.
